Abstract
The research background is that since the normalization of bilateral relations in 1995, Vietnam-US relations have developed rapidly and reached a new stage at a higher level. On September 11, 2023 US President Joe Biden met with Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi, Vietnam. The US and Vietnam signed a “comprehensive strategic partnership” agreement. The Leaders underscored the basic principles guiding the US-Vietnam relationship including respect for the UN Charter, international law, political systems, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of each other. Therefore, the author is interested in researching the interests of the United States and Vietnam in a comprehensive strategic partnership. The purpose of this research is to examine and explain the interests of the United States and Vietnam in a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. In conducting research, the author used descriptive research. Data collection methods are document-based research or internet-based research. In this document or internet-based study, data and information are collected and analyzed to understand the phenomenon being studied. The data analysis method is qualitative. Based on the analysis, the research results show that Vietnam's strategic interests are the main priorities, namely: security, prosperity and international standing. The strategic interests of the United States are prosperity, regional stability, regional security and the balance of power in the Asia Pacific. The common interests of the US and Vietnam are increasing aspects of regional security and stability, as well as involving interdependence in various fields such as economy, trade, technology, education and the environment. By understanding and establishing these shared interests, the comprehensive strategic partnership between the US and Vietnam can continue to develop and provide positive benefits for future cooperation.
