Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Service Post (P4MI) Malang City in handling cases of job mismatch experienced by formal sector Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) in Taiwan in 2022. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with a case study approach. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with P4MI, PMI who experienced job mismatch problems, and other related documents. The results show that P4MI Malang City has a significant role in providing protection and assistance for PMI who experience job mismatch. P4MI acts as a mediator between PMI and the employer, provides legal assistance, and provides psychological guidance and support. However, this study also found several obstacles faced by P4MI, such as limited human and financial resources, and lack of coordination with authorities in Taiwan. In conclusion, although P4MI Malang City has made maximum efforts in protecting PMI, there is still a need to increase cooperation between related institutions and increase resources to optimize the functions and roles of P4MI. Recommendations from this study are the need to strengthen regulations and increase the capacity of P4MI, as well as improve coordination with the Taiwanese government to ensure better protection for migrant workers in the formal sector.
